Before I start,
this poem is dedicated to the 8 year old Liberian girl who was raped by 4 Liberian Boys (ages 9,10,11,14) in Arizona. Worst part of this whole story is that her father disowned her after learning of the incident because he said she brought "shame" to the family.

It should have never been this way.
Innocence should have been your best friend for eternity
Dancing with you at the touch of dawn and tucking you in at sunset
Your beauty should have never been questioned and Daddy should have told you that.
Innocence, should have been your best friend for eternity.
Lying next to you during the darkest times at night
Your beauty should have never been questioned and Daddy should have told you that.
Sometimes demons take to familiar faces; but don’t you be afraid of their deceiving smiles.
Lying next to you during the darkest times. At night
Their fingertips paint disturbing portraits; erasing innocence from existence and
Sometimes demons take to familiar faces; but don’t you be afraid of their deceiving smiles.
Daddy is afraid of them and your strength too; he tells you to go with them.
Their fingertips paint disturbing portraits; erasing innocence from existence and
Leaving the girl in you broken; their strength resembles that of cruel men and
Daddy is afraid of them and your strength too, he tells you to go with them.
In fear that his image will be distorted, but what about the broken girl in you.
Leaving the girl in you broken. Their strength still resembles that of cruel men and
I see misery in your 8 year old eyes as shame defines his lashes, he leaves you
In fear that his image will be distorted, but what about the broken girl in you.
Replaying the nasty images of him and him and him and him raping, raping, raping, and raping you.
I see misery in your 8 year old eyes. As shame defines his lashes; he leaves you
And innocence too, because he isn’t man enough to handle the constant
Replaying of the nasty images of him and him and him and him raping, raping, raping, and raping you.
Baby girl you are still beautiful because the universe made you.
And Innocence too. He isn’t man enough to handle your constant
Beauty, which should have never been questioned and Daddy should have told you that
“Babygirl, you are still beautiful because the universe made you”.
It should have never been that way.
